Pablo Gómez-Acebo, Industrial Engineer from Repsol and head of the project, talks about the electric car:
When will electricity as a source of energy for cars become a reality?
Transport energy efficiency will come in the short and medium term because of improvements in internal combustion engines, intensive use of AutoGas and hybrid vehicles, while electrically powered fuel batteries have great long term potential.
How is Repsol working for the electric car to become a reality?
An example of the work carried out by Repsol for the electric car to become a reality is the collaboration agreement signed with the Basque Energy Board (EVE) which is advancing in the development of a charging network for electric vehicles in the Basque Country Region.
Objective:
To incorporate electricity as an automotive energy supply alternative.
Achievements:
Development of the first Repsol network for recharging electric cars in Spain.
Individual in charge:
Pablo Gómez-Acebo, Repsol Industrial Engineer.
Staff:
9 people working in activities related to automotive electrification.
What exactly does the project entail?
The agreement establishes an initial phase to analyse the technical and economic feasibility of the project. In this first phase we are analysing the different systems for charging or replacing batteries in electric vehicles. It also considers the technical specifications of the charging points, the models of operation, the most appropriate locations… and the drafting of a business plan to create a company that will eventually, in a second phase, manage the establishment and exploitation of a network of charging points in the Basque Country.
Why is studying and developing the electric car so important?
Because in this way Repsol hopes to contribute to guaranteeing fuel supplies that are efficient in terms of cost, and that contribute to sustainability and achieving global environmental objectives. The objective of Repsol is to lead transport energy supplies in the long term and thus define our positioning in relation to new technologies for creating hybrid and electric vehicles
